THE GREATEST DISEASE IS TO BE NOBODY TO ANYBODY.
If you
have HIV/AIDS, what hurts most isn't the illness, but the way people treat
you. Doctors say that someone with HIV who is ignored and rejected gets
sick so much sooner than someone who is loved and supported. Imagine -
the most powerful medicine you can give someone with HIV is a hug, a smile,
a little of your time! We have struggled to kill apartheid. Let's not do
it again to millions of South Africans coping with HIV/AIDS and hundreds
more who are infected every day.
- Children who are HIV positive should not be admitted into creches and pre-schools -
|
|
- Everyone should take responsibilty for his/her own sexual health, therefore a person who is HIV positive should not be complelled to tell new sexual partners about their HIV status-
|
|
- Pregnant women who are HIV should be encouraged to have an abortion

HYPOTHETICAL SCENARIO
A very effective drug which could increase the life span of a person living with HIV, has recently been discovered. The state has decided to run a pilot research project to investigate the economic liability of subsidising the drug. The pilot research budget can only afford to fund one person's treatment. This panel has been approached to make recommendations.
THE THREE POTENTIAL CANDIDATES ARE:
-A homosexual man -
-
A health care worker -
- A domestic servant -
Consider carefully who should be awarded the government grant. Remember that this treatment could mean a substantially extended life span for the recipient.
-A
homosexual man (Charles) -
-
A health care worker (Sally) -
- A domestic servant (Nomsa) -
