Activity 8: Scaffolding learning for learners

How can we make complex tasks easier for learners?

The purpose of this activity is to:

  1. give you some background to the concept of "scaffolding"

  2. assist you to provide a "scaffold" for your learners

We will provide you with templates that will help you to structure the unit for your learners. In this activity you will write the tasks and process for your unit of learning using the model that you chose in Activity 5. Before you proceed, we recommend that you read the following:

 

Activity

  1. Use the scaffold provided for the unit that you are designing:

    Scaffold for WebQuests
    Scaffold for Research Cycle
    Scaffold for Scientific Method

    Design the unit and provide the complete set of instructions and resources for the learners. Save the work in a file or folder called Scaffold.

  2. Complete section F of the Implementation Plan, giving a brief outline of the process of the unit.

  3. Read more about learner support methods. Produce one learner support document that will assist your learners with the ICT or information skills that they will need to complete this unit. Use any ICT application that is most suitable for your unit.

  4. Share your learner support document online with your group (using the subject heading "Learner support document"). Give feedback to your group members if you feel that their support documents could be improved. You may find some of their support documents very useful for use in your own school.
