Activity 10 is divided into four parts, each dealing with an aspect of evaluating information:

Purpose

Before you do this activity, we suggest that you read a short article on Establishing the purpose of a site. 

Group Activity 10

What is the purpose of the site?

  1. Look at the following two sites below (click on the link) and answer the questions that follow:

Why do you think that this information was written and published? Is it meant to educate you, influence you, make you have strong feelings, or entertain you, or is there another purpose?

  1. Share the answers of Question 1 with your group by writing mail to the group. Discuss their answers with them.

 

Once you have completed the above activity, we suggest that you move on to Activity 10B - Evaluating information: credibility.

Before moving on to Activity 11, first do assignment 2

ASSIGNMENT 2

This assignment is to be done once you have completed Activity 10.

Base this assignment on your understanding of the reading and activities you have completed in Activities 9 and 10.

What to do:

Use the hyperlink function in an application of your choice to compile a list of 10 websites that support teaching and learning in a specific learning area and phase. Pin each resource to a curriculum learning outcome and/or assessment standard.

Using a list of evaluation criteria that you have drawn up yourself, evaluate the credibility of each site. The list should include at least 6 criteria.

What to submit:

You should preferably include the hyperlinked list and the criteria in one document. If you use linked web pages, Zip these into one file.

Save your list of resources as <your_student_number>-Core2A-resources
e.g. 205654321-Core2A-resources

Send the saved file as an attachment in e-mail to your tutor (using the subject heading "Core2A Assignment2").
