This activity aims to equip you with skills and information on how to:

  • Identify the items that need to be included in an ICT budget for the school;
  • Use a spreadsheet (Excel) to work out your ICT budget in an area of prioritization;
  • Anticipate the expenditure that will be incurred when introducing and using ICTs at the school; and
  • Monitor and control ICT expenditure.
Activity
  1. Read the following information on:
Decide whether you think this scenario is uncommon? When there has not been proper budgeting, this is what can happen in your school. Put yourself in the principal's shoes. What would you have done to avoid this scenario?

When providing ICT equipment at a school, you need to:
  • Predict expenditure and plan for it; and
  • Control expenditure so that ICT equipment is fully functional over the full period for which the budget is valid.
  1. Read the donor funding scenario and the budget steps to follow.

Now, in a document called Budget:

  • Make a list of all the items that need to be included in the ICT budget.
  • List what still needs to be done to meet the donor partner's request.
  1. Draw up the budget that you will use in your specific areas of ICT-priority. Your areas of ICT-priority will require renewable sources of INCOME to fund plans further down the line.
