Module requirements


Previous experience

You should have the basic competence with computers and the Internet (ICT) as required for this qualification. You will be able to benefit from this module if you are able to relate what you learn to previous experience in ICT integration with classroom teaching, although this experience is not a requirement.

Module requirements

You should start with Activity 0 - Hello Activity to meet the members of your group. We strongly recommend that you follow the activities in the order in which they appear. Click here to view a list of all the activities for this module.

Once you have completed the module, we will ask you to complete a short self-assessment form, based on the outcomes of the module.

Web access

In order to participate in this module you will need access to a computer that is linked to the Internet. You will be required to communicate with your group and tutor via e-mail and other online collaboration tools.

You will also require Web access in the latter part of this module and you should make allowances for the cost of online time at that stage.

Assessment

In this module your assessment will be weighted as follows:

  • Online collaboration as shown in your collaboratoin log = 10%
  • Personal reflection as presented in your e-diary = 10%
  • Assignment 1 = 20%
  • Assignment 2 = 25%
  • Assignment 3 = 35%

Note: In this module the self-activities and group activities will be particularly useful in helping you meet the assignment requirements.

Assignment 1: ICT in support of the educator

This assignment is to be done once you have completed Activity 5.

Base this assignment on your understanding of the reading and activities you have completed in Activities 1-5.

What to do:

Analyse the seven roles of the educator and evaluate the part that ICT can play in supporting these roles.

Provide sample documentation of how at least three applications are used to support at least 4 roles of the educator in practical school-related situations. In total, provide 6 documents of your choice. You may use any applications of your choice, but ensure that your tutor will be able to open the files.

Include this summary table in your e-diary. The following table is completed as an example:

In your e-diary, in no less than 200 words explain the challenges you face and how you plan to overcome these and change your practice in order to increase the impact of ICT on your roles as an educator.

What to submit:

Compress your 6 documents and your e-diary into one ZIP file.

Name your zip file as <your_student_number>-Core2A-portfolio .

Assignment 2: Information literacy

This assignment is to be done once you have completed Activity 10.

Base this assignment on your understanding of the reading and activities you have completed in Activities 9 and 10.

What to do:

Use the hyperlink function in an application of your choice to compile a list of 10 websites that support teaching and learning in a specific learning area and phase. Pin each resource to a curriculum learning outcome and/or assessment standard.

Using a list of evaluation criteria that you have drawn up yourself, evaluate the credibility of each site. The list should include at least 6 criteria.

What to submit:

You should preferably include the hyperlinked list and the criteria in one document. If you use linked web pages, Zip these into one file.

Assignment 3: Teaching and Learning with ICT

This assignment is to be done once you have completed Activity 11.

Base this assignment on your understanding of the reading and activities you have completed in Activities 1 and 11.

What to do:

Click here and use this template for this assignment (first save the file and then open it in MS Word).

Design and implement a lesson that fully integrates the use of ICT by both the teacher and the learners.

Explain how each use of ICT supports your view on how ICT can support learning and teaching.

Analyse this lesson, explaining the reasons for the events in the classroom, and identifying areas for improvement.

Develop a plan or strategy for future action which reflects an integration of what you have learnt through your reflection on this lesson.
