Remember that your review is not only for your own benefit but will be shared with other members of your group so that, by the end, you will all have detailed information on a range of educational software products.

Activity

Instructions
  1. Use one of your chosen software products on your own. Imagine that you are a learner: would you want to have a copy at your school? As a teacher: is it a useful resource? How would you use it with a class? Make rough notes while you use it to include in your review of this product.

  2. Using the criteria you developed in Activity 4, write up a review for this software product. Use your file called Review as a starting point. For the purposes of this review, save the document using the name Software Review.

Your review should be detailed enough to give someone a good idea of what they can expect of the product and should make it clear whether you recommend the product or not. Your review should be about 2-3 pages in length and submitted in a word-processor document.

Check your review - by asking yourself:

  • Have you included both positive and negative aspects or features?
  • Have you described its purpose and your context?
  • How flexible is it for use in other contexts and for different purposes?
  • How would you improve it?
  • Does someone reading your review know what to expect of the product?
  • Does someone reading your review know your opinions of the product?
  • Have you incuded meaningful criteria? Look again at the detailed and quick review categories and criteria.
  • Is your review verifiable?
  • Can you justify your claims?
  • You should be able to say "the product meets this criterion because...". Or is your review just your opinion? "I like this, I think that
