Activity 7: Reviewing a product used with a class

Plan a lesson using chosen software: 3 hrs
Use the software in a lesson with learners: 2 hrs
Add learner reaction comments to software review: 1hr
Read the reviews of at least two group members:1 hr

In the previous activity you reviewed a software product of your choice. Now you will use it with a class of learners and then record their reaction to it. Remember that your review is not only for your own benefit but will be shared with other members of your group so that you will all have detailed information on a range of educational software products.

Note: Do not do this assignment until your Assignment 1 deadline is past.

Instructions
  1. Using the software product that you chose to review (or of necessary selecting a new product), plan a lesson where you will make use of the software.
  2. Conduct your lesson with learners using the software product.
  3. Open your file called Software Review. Add comments describing how your learners reacted to this software product.
Your review should be detailed enough to:
  • Describe what you did with your learners and your reflection on the successes and failures of the lesson;
  • Describe your learner responses;
  • Indicate what you think your learners actually learnt;
  • Conclude whether the use of the product was engaging and compelling.
You may find these examples of classroom reviews useful. Once you have completed your review comments, save the file using the name Software Classroom Review.
  1. Share your document online with your group (using the subject heading "Software Classroom Review").
  2. Read at least two of the reviews received from your group and compare them to your own.
  3. Participate in a discussion online (using the subject heading "Using Educational Software") in which you share your experience, lessons learnt, challenges and successes with using educational software in the classroom.
