Activity 2: Choosing appropriate evaluation criteria

Review criteria provided: 1 hr
Write ideas in portfolio: 30 mins
Select and describe 10 criteria: 1 hr

2 hrs 30 mins

When choosing and reviewing educational software it is important to have a framework or questions in mind.

  • What are you looking for in a software product?
  • What should you be careful of?
  • How do you know if a software product is good or bad?
  • How can you choose between two similar products?

To answer these questions you need to have some criteria to use when reviewing software. These can guide your thinking and make sure you are not overlooking some important aspect.

Activity

  1. Browse through the range of educational software evaluation criteria and instruments presented here. Write down the ideas, concepts and considerations that you think are useful in reviewing software and record these in your e-diary.
  1. Now choose a maximum of ten criteria, which you think are most appropriate for your context. Write down the heading of each criteria and then write one or two sentences describing what you understand by this criteria. Use this template to guide you. Save the file using the file name Criteria.

  2. Share the document with your group online.

  3. Respond to your group's e-mail by commenting on their choices. Send your response to the person who wrote the document.
