Co-operation is the foundation of many project-based activities. It is one of the valuable life-skills that a sound education system should develop in learners. In this activity you will develop an understanding of co-operative groups and implement the first part of your project.

Activity

Case study

  1. Read Some guidelines for setting up co-operative groups and Co-operative vs Traditional Groups.

  2. In Activity 4, you looked at the activities of the "If I Were The President.." case study. Look at the activities again and see if there was evidence of co-operative learning in this project. Evaluate whether it is a good example of co-operative group work. Use the document called Co-operation Exercise.
    Planning

You will be entering Phase 4 of the Learning Circle in this, the 8th, week of the module. In this phase you will send and receive responses to data gathering questions.

  3. Go back to your brainstorm ideas for your Learning Circle Project (Activity 4), and identify the ways in which your class cooperates with other learners. Based on your possible experience of the Learning Circle, update the Co-operative group work section of your Project Planner, and save it in your home folder.

  4. Consider how you will assess this co-operative group work activity and update the Assessment Plan section of the Project Planner as well. Once you have completed this, save the Project Planner and send it as a file attachment in email to your tutor (using the subject heading "Cooperative Activity") for comment. Incorporate any feedback comments in your plan.

    Implementing the project in class

  5. By this stage you may have made some progress with your Learning Circle project. Partcipate in an online group discussion (using the subject heading "Project progress") and share how it went/is going. Rather than describing the whole process, discuss some of the problems and successes of the project, especially the group work. Do not be afraid to tell everyone if the lesson did not go well. Remember we learn from our mistakes.

  6. Use your e-diary to make closing comments about this activity.
