Activity 7: Trigonometric equation editing

2 hrs

Activity

Use your e-diary to record your thoughts about equation editing.

  1. Open the word processor document called my equations. In this document, do the following:

Write a trigonometric equation:

   y = sin (30o)

This procedure might help:

Open the equation editor
When the box opens, write y = sin
Then insert the round brackets ()
Inside the brackets write 30
Then choose o from the miscellaneous symbol menu:

Now try and write:

  y = ½ cos (A + B)

Another common trigonometric equation looks like this cos2 = 2cos2 -1. Try to type this equation using equation editor.

  1. Now
  2. EITHER

    create a table that shows the sine, cosine and tangent values of the special angles 0o, 30o, 45o, 60o and 90o

    OR

    Create a one page information handout with all the standard trigonometric identities.
  3. Once you have created a teaching and learning resource using Equation Editor, share the document online with your group (using the subject heading "Equations resource").

  4. Complete your e-diary about this activity.
