The Kafue National Park is Zambia's largest national park, covering an area of 22,400 square kilometers. Located in western Zambia, the park is drained by the Lufupa and Lunga rivers, both of which are tributaries of the Kafue River. Tourists can visit the park throughout the year for a chance to watch a variety of wildlife including the elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, sable, roan antelope, spotted hyena, puku, wild dog, red lechwe, hippo and about 450 species of birds. Visitors can stay in thatched huts. Most of the camping sites in the park are privately operated and provide a variety of accommodations. Game viewing drives, fishing and bird-watching boat trips are some of the activities offered to visitors. Precautions need to be taken against malaria.
