reading: 15 mins
creating site map: 30 mins
message to tutor: 15 mins

1 hr

Users can see how information is structured on a website by referring to a site map on the website. The purpose of this activity is to get you to sketch out your website's content in a site map.

If you would like to explore the concept of site maps further before starting this activity, we suggest you read a short article called What is a site map?

Additional advice can be found in this page on Site structure.

Activity

Use your e-diary to make initial comments.

  1. Using a similar method to those shown in the article What is a site map?, draw a site map of your website showing the structure of the website, and the main files that you intend to use. If you would like to, you can do this in graphic format. An outline or a table in a word processor document would be sufficient. Your site map should include both the main headings for the sections in your website and the file names that you will use for these sections in brackets.

  2. Send the completed site map as a file attachment in email to your tutor (using the subject heading "Site Map").

Use your e-diary to make comments about this activity.
