You are required to have the basic ICT
competency that is a pre-requisite for this qualification
. Other than that, there are no prerequisites for this module
although previous experience of educational software would
be an advantage.
Previous Experience
To complete this module you should ideally:

Be currently and directly
involved in/with a school. You need to have knowledge
about a specific school context and current practice and
have a place in which to plan and read)

Be basically computer
literate. You should be very comfortable using at least
one basic Office package or you should have completed
at least one of the generic (application) modules such
as Word, Excel or web related modules

Have access to a reliable
computer, CD-ROM, e-mail account, and some Internet access
-
Be proficient in reading
and writing English.
Module
Requirements
This module is aimed at all educators
who plan to use educational software to support teaching and
learning. It does not focus explicitly on administrative and
support software such as timetabling packages and report generators.
Rather its focus is on software products that can be used
to support the curriculum. Anyone who intends buying or choosing
educational software for use in their school or home would
find it useful.
You should start with Activity
0 - Hello Activity to meet the members of your group.
We strongly recommend that you follow the activities in the
order in which they appear. Click here to view a list of all

module.
You are required to interact by email with
members of your group during this module. This interaction
is part of the activities and you must follow the instructions
of each activity carefully.
Once you have completed the module, we will
ask you to complete a short self-assessment
form, based on the outcomes
of the module.
We will also ask you to complete a brief
module evaluation form.
Web Access
In order to participate in this module you
will need access to a computer that is linked to the Internet.
You will also need a Web browser such as Internet Explorer
or Firefox to access websites
during the module. We expect that you will be spending a considerable
amount of time on the Internet during the course of this module.
You will need to be aware of the likely telephone costs before
deciding to start this module.

In this module you assessment will be weighted

Assignment 1: Develop
an evaluation tool for educational software
This assignment should
be completed once you have completed Activity 6.
What to do:
- Define a specific type of educational
software and develop an evaluation tool for this software.
- Apply this tool to an example
of this type of software that you plan to use in class
and write a review on the software.
- Use your word processor
to write this review. The review should contain no
fewer than 500 words. The review should include:
- a definition of the software
that you are evaluating
- an evaluation tool, completed

Assignment 2: Evaluate a learning
experience with educational software
This assignment should be attempted
after you have completed Activity 8.
What to do:
Plan and implement a lesson using
the type of software for which you developed an evaluation
tool in the previous assignment.
- Include additional criteria, if
necessary, for evaluating the learning experience
with educational software.
In a document of no less than 600
words, reflect on the lesson, giving reasons for the
events that took place.
- Explain the role that the software
should have played during the lesson.
- Develop a plan or strategy for
future action for using educational software which
reflects an integration of what you have learnt through
reflection.
