Activity 8: Developing software review guidelines for your school

Reflect on your learning: 30 mins
Write guidelines for school: 2 hrs

2 hrs 30 mins

You have now explored various approaches to evaluating educational software and thought about the different purposes and contexts for using educational software. As the final activity for this module, you are going to consolidate your learning by developing brief guidelines for colleagues on choosing educational software.

Activity

Instructions
  1. Reflect back on your experiences in this module. What are the key things you have learnt? Use your e-diary to write down a few reflective notes for yourself and look back.
  2. Create a poster consisting of a short set of guidelines or tips for choosing educational software. You will display this poster in your staff room. Your tips or guidelines should be clear and easy to follow.
You may create a poster with a title like:

"Ten things to look out for when choosing educational software" or
"Seven educational purposes for software" or
"Understanding our context for choosing software: What works and what doesn't"
Your poster should be clearly written and easy for your colleagues to read at a glance.
  1. Share your poster with you group (Using the subject heading "Educational Software Poster").

  2. (Optional) Collect the tips and guidelines sent by your group and display a new one each week in your school.

You may want to start a bulletin board or pin up list where you share reviews and ideas with colleagues on educational software or ideas for computer use at your school.

You may encourage other colleagues to enrol in this module and share their findings, or you may encourage them to try out educational software and share their findings with you and other members of staff.

Holding a meeting once a term where interested colleagues share software and software experiences can be good way to encourage each other to keep trying new things and share your learning.

Your educational software exploration has only just begun - Good luck!
