Activity 4: Planning a learning experience

In this activity you will be preparing an outline plan for a learning experience that you will be developing. You should by now have collected some good ideas and at least some resources based on your chosen topic. The next step in the development process is to plan out what your outcomes will be and which activities you will take into the classroom and when.

During this activity you will be required to produce an outline plan of a learning experience covering at least 4 hours of learning including homework and self-study. You will also be developing your skills in the use of tables in a word processor.

Activity
  1. Look at your science curriculum document for the grade you have chosen Look up your chosen topic and make notes about the requirements in the document called planning notes. You are going to re-use this document in the next activity, so make sure you save a copy somewhere.

  2. Identify one or two (assessment) standards that you think can be achieved during a learning experience on this topic.

  3. Write some learning objectives that will be achieved through the learning experience. Start each learning obkective with the phrase:
  4. By the end of this learning experience learners should be able to...

  5. Identify all the "products" that learners will have as evidence of their abilities by the end of the learning experience. Note these down with the title Assessment Evidence.

  6. Write a brief summary of each of the activities that learners will do in order to complete the activity. List all the resources you will need for each activity.
  7. Note down how long you think each activity will take.

    Present all this information in the planning notes file that you saved in task 1 above.

  8. When you have prepared your document, share the document with your group (using the subject heading "Planning notes"). In the document or message, explain the logic behind what you have done.

Use your e-diary to write about the experience of writing outcomes and planning in this way.
