Module requirements

Previous experience

This module is aimed - in the first instance - at science educators teaching Grade 7-12 Science. It is assumed that you:

  • Are currently teaching science in any Grade from 7-12;
  • Can use a mouse, keyboard, basic navigation approaches including menus and can use at least one basic application such as a word-processor or spreadsheet;
  • Have access to a computer and reliable email accounts;
  • Have access to computers for your learners at school (this is not a prerequisite but some aspects of the module focus on using computers in science classrooms with either the learner or the teacher making use of computers in class);
  • Have access to the Internet.

Module requirements

In order to complete this module, it is recommended that you first complete the module on ICT science resources for teachers.

You should start with Activity 0 - Hello Activity to meet the members of your group. We strongly recommend that you follow the activities in the order in which they appear. Click here to view a list of all the activities for this module.

You are required to collaborate with members of your group during this module. This interaction is part of the activities and you must follow the instructions of each activity carefully.

Once you have completed the module, we will ask you to complete a short self-assessment form, based on the outcomes of the module.

We will also ask you to complete a brief module evaluation form.

Web access

In order to participate in this module you will need access to a computer that is linked to the Internet. You will also need a Web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox to access websites during the module. We expect that you will be spending a considerable amount of time on the Internet during the course of this module. You will need to be aware of the likely telephone costs before deciding to start this module.

Assessment

You should attempt this assignment once you have completed all the activities in the module.

ASSIGNMENT

What to do:

Identify a unit of work in your science curriculum.

Click here to use this template for this assignment.

  • Describe how you teach/taught that unit without the integrated use of ICT resources.
  • Plan and implement the unit with the integrated use of ICT. Explain what options you had for integrating ICT and why you chose the options that you did. What do you envisage the impact of ICT to be on the unit?
  • Implement the unit and observe and reflect on the integrated use of ICT during the unit. Explain reasons for what you see happening.
  • Reflect on the unit and identify areas for improvement. Develop a plan or strategy for future integration of ICT that reflects what you have learnt through this experience.

What to submit:

Save the completed template as <your_student_number>-Elective6-integrated-lesson . e.g. 205654321-Elective6-integrated lesson

Save your e-diary as <your_student_number>-Elective6-ediary .
e.g. 205654321-Elective6-ediary

Save your collaboration log as <your_student_number>-Elective6-collaboration.
e.g. 205654321-Elective6-collaboration

Submit the saved lesson document, the e-diary and collaboration log as file attachments in e-mail to your tutor (using the subject heading "Developing Science Resources - Assignment").
