Activity 5: ICT and policy

Writing draft policy: 2 hrs
Discussion with group: 1 hr
Continue and complete draft policy: 1 hr

4 hrs

In Activity 2A you dealt with general policies that equipped you with skills to develop and implement appropriate ICT services and systems at your school. You looked, in general terms, at a number of factors that merit consideration when drawing up a school ICT policy.

In this activity, you continue to focus on your areas of priority. You are going to think of policy again, but in your chosen focus areas.

In this task you will develop a policy relating to ICT at your school.

Activity
  1. Identify and choose areas that you feel need to be included in your own school's policy. Begin the process of drafting a school ICT policy that will enhance the implementation of ICT in your chosen focus areas at your school. Identify 5-6 key points on each focus area that you will include in your school's ICT policy. Write these key points in a document called Draft ICT policy.
  2. Share your document with your group online (using the subject heading "Draft ICT Policy"), so that they can comment on your ideas. Comment on at least two of your peers' draft policies that you read. Encourage wider debate about what points should be included in an ICT policy.
  3. Include the feedback you receive in your draft policy.

  4. Send your draft policy as a file attachment in email to your tutor (using the subject heading "Draft ICT Policy"). This will serve as a draft assignment and your tutor will give you feedback so that you are well-prepared for the final assignment after module 7.
  5. Make closing comments in your e-diary.
