Activity 10B: Quadratic graphs

1 hr

In this activity you will be required to represent a set of data using a graph in MS Excel. You may find the tip sheet on Plotting graphs useful.

Activity

Use your e-diary to record your thoughts about drawing graphs in Excel.
  1. Using any quadratic equation y = ax2 + bx + c, show in graphical format the effect of changing:

1. a - the coefficient of x2,
2. c - the y intercept .
The quadratic graph worksheet on the "quadratic graph" worksheet may help.

Your submission should contain a comparison of at least three graphs for each case. All graphs should be drawn using MS Excel.

How can access to MS Excel help you design a lesson for learners to generate the conclusions about the effect of changing the y intercept and the coefficient of x2 in any quadratic equation?

  1. Once you have created the graphs in MS Excel, save them and attach them in email to your tutor (using the subject heading "Quadratic graphs").
  2. If you have created a teaching resource share the document online with your group using the same subject heading.
Complete your e-diary on this activity.
