Activity 5: Exploring commercially available software to enhance mathematics education at school

 

 

 



 

Now that you have looked at freely available software, it is also important to think about the possibility of buying commercially available software. You will explore some commercially available software in this activity.

Note: this activity asks you to review (read about) commercial software and to report on it. You are not required to buy the software.

Activity

Use your e-diary to record your thoughts about exploring commercial software.

  1. Identify at least one commercial mathematics software product. This may be available in your school, in a software retail outlet,
    or could be a product description on the Internet. Investigate how this can help you in delivering mathematics education.
  2. Participate in an online group discussion (using the subject heading "Benefits and Pitfalls of Maths Software") in which you outline the benefits and pitfalls of maths educational software. Write about how learning can be enhanced by using the commercially available software you are reviewing.
  3. As you read comments from the rest of your group, make sure that you makes notes of useful resources and ideas.
  4. Provide replies to at least two comments from your group.
