Activity 4: Try out and review Freeware or Shareware

In this activity you are required to visit websites offering freeware or shareware. Read about the difference between shareware and freeware.

Activity

Use your e-diary to record your thoughts about using Freeware or Shareware.

In the steps below, an example is provided here using http://www.mathsnet.net .
If you want to, though, you could follow the same procedure as the one below using any other site of your choice. Be sure that the site you are using has freeware or shareware that you can download and install.

  1. Visit mathsnet by clicking on the hyperlink http://www.mathsnet.net (remember that at you will have to be connected to the Internet to do this). Go to the 'downloads' link to find a piece of shareware in which you are interested.
  2. Download one freeware or shareware programme you are interested in onto the harddrive of your computer.
  3. Install the downloaded software.
  4. Explore the downloaded software to see what it can do for your mathematics learners.
  5. Use the word processor to develop list of instructions for your learners on how to use  the software.
  6. Share this learner support document with your group (using the subject heading "Using Freeware") with some comments about what you liked about the software. Mention the software that you used.
