Previous experience
This module is aimed - in the first instance
- at mathematics educators for Grade 7-12. It is assumed that you:
- Are currently teaching mathematics for any grade from Grade 7-12
- Can use a mouse, keyboard, basic navigation
approaches including menus;
- Can use a word processer and spreadsheet,
and have some experience in searching the WWW for information;
- Have access to a computer and a reliable
email account;
- Have access to computers for your learners
at school (this is not a prerequisite but some aspects of
the module focus on using computers in mathematics classrooms
with either the learner or the teacher making use of computers
in class);
- Have access to the Internet.
Module requirements
You need to complete
all the activities in this module, starting with Activity
0 - Hello Activity, in which you will meet the members of
your group. We strongly recommend that you follow the activities
in the order in which they appear. Click here to view a list
of all the activities for
this module.
You are required to interact by email
with members of your group during this module. This interaction
is part of the activities and you must follow the instructions
of each activity carefully.
Once you have completed the module, we will
ask you to complete a short self-assessment
form, based on the outcomes of the module.
We will also ask you to complete
a brief module evaluation form.
Web access
In order to participate in this module you
will need access to a computer that is linked to the Internet.
You will also need a Web browser such as Internet Explorer
or Firefox to access websites
during the module. We expect that you will be spending a considerable
amount of time on the Internet during the course of this module.
Assessment
In this module you assessment will be weighted
as follows:
- E-mail discussion as shown in your collaborationl
log = 10%
- Personal reflection as presented in your
e-diary = 10%
- Assignment 1 = 80%
Assignment 1:
This assignment should be attempted
once you have completed all the activities in the module.
What to do:
Accumulate a resource pack of mathematics
resources consisting of at least 4 different kinds of
resources / tools and at least 10 separate resources
/ tools for supporting mathematics teaching and learning.
Note: Only one of the kinds of
resource tools may be either informational (e.g. history
of mathematics) or mathematics worksheets. The other
three kinds of resource should be supporting OBE practice,
especially learner-centered activities.
Link each resource with curriculum assessment standards.
Evaluate the resource in terms of
how it can support
a) the roles of the educator
b) teaching and learning approaches.
What to submit:
You should produce one document using
the template that links for Activity 11 on the CD.

Save your e-diary as <your_student_number>-Elective3-ediary

Submit the saved resource list document,
the e-diary and e-mail log as file attachments in e-mail
to your tutor (using the subject heading "Maths1 Assignment") . |
