A logical consequence of meetings to create a shared vision is resulting enthusiasm to either introduce ICTs at the school and/or further progress ICT integration. It will now be important to plan how this shared vision will be realised. There are some key questions to consider:

How will the cost implications attached to the shared vision and its goals be funded?

  • Will new partnerships for the school need to be established?
  • As a school leader, what steps will you have to follow to develop these partnerships?
  • Who will you approach?
  • Will appointments have to be made?
  • Will you invite school visits?
  • Will you write word-processed letters to potential partners motivating why the school is a worthy partner and worth supporting in its ICT integration endeavour?
  • What would help you to construct a compelling argument?
  • Will you talk about the school's ethos and shared values?
  • Will you discuss school successes and, if the ICT integration process is already underway, will you describe the quality and level of ICT use at the school?

Activity

  1. Draft a convincing letter to a potential partner of the school. Save this in your e-diary with the heading Partnership letter.

  2. Copy and paste the contents of this letter in a message to your group (using the subject heading "Partnership letter"). Do they agree: is the letter convincing? Is there anything else you should include and/or delete in your motivation letter? Ask them for constructive feedback.

  3. Respond to any motivation letters to potential school partners that you receive from others in your peer learning group.

  4. Incorporate constructive feedback in the final version of your letter.

  5. Send this letter out by fax, post and/or by e-mail.

  6. Follow this up by making a telephone call to the potential partner, ensuring that the letter was received. Request an appointment for the proposal to be discussed further. After the meeting with the potential partner, report, in a message to your group (using the subject heading "New partnerships") on how things went. What were the difficulties/successes and lessons learned from this exercise?
