The role of the tutor

These materials have been designed to be used as part of an interactive online learning process. You will share your experiences with fellow teachers and receive ongoing support and feedback from a tutor.

The role of the tutor is to:

  • Provide encouragement, constructive feedback and support to you as you work through the modules;
  • Facilitate the group e-mail discussions between the educators on the module;
  • Give you an indication of the pace at which you should be working;
  • Support you in your learning by commenting, encouraging and giving you advice by e-mail;
  • Answer your email queries;
  • Informally assess your draft assignments and provide you with feedback. Note that your tutor will not finally assess your assignments. This is done by other assessors.

The tutor is a supportive facilitator of the learning process. You should see the tutor as someone who can help you to succeed, not as someone who intends to 'check on' or monitor your progress. As an adult student you are expected to take responsibility to manage your progress yourself.
