Mathematics and Language Arts Academic Standards

Math Content Standards, as written in the grade nine District Academic Standards, include:

Problem Solving

Identifies problems and formulates mathematical solutions.

Applies statistical relationships to solve mathematical and real world problems.
Applies a variety of strategies including technology to solve mathematical, real world, and open- ended problems.

Reasoning

Uses mathematical reasoning to develop, analyze, and validate conjectures and arguments.

Follows the logical sequence of steps in the development of an argument by deductive reasoning.

Connections

Understands multiple representations of data by translating data from one representation to another, i.e., equations to tables or graphs.

Understands the interconnections among mathematical topics and their applications by applying mathematical skills in new situations, and understanding the connection between math skills and real world situation.

Skills

Statistics

Applies statistics to real world situations appropriately.
Collects data from a variety of sources and organizes, records, and displays the data.
Determines appropriate measures of center; mean , median, mode, and range.
Creates line plots from data.
Makes generalizations and predictions from data.
Analyzes and interprets data.

Reading Content Standards (Grade 9)

Variety of Sources

Reads a wide of materials and genres:

Non-fiction

Reads maps, charts, graphs, schedules, notices, etc.

Information Access and Evaluation

Accesses and evaluates information from print and non-print sources:

Knows how and where to locate information

Knows the difference between primary and secondary sources

Uses library effectively

Checks validity of information by comparing sources

Writing Content Standards (Grade 10)

Modes

Employs a variety of modes, separately and in combination:

Speculation About Causes or Effects

Speculates about the causes or predicts possible effects (outcomes or consequences) of a situation, event, trend, or phenomenon.
