Module requirements


Previous experience

You should have the basic ICT competence as required for this qualification. You will be able to benefit from this module if you are able to relate what you learn to previous experience in ICT integration with classroom teaching, although this experience is not a requirement.

Module requirements

You should start with Activity 0 - Hello Activity to meet the members of your group. We strongly recommend that you follow the activities in the order in which they appear. Click here to view a list of all the activities for this module.

Once you have completed the module, we will ask you to complete a short self-assessment form, based on the outcomes of the module.

Web access

In order to participate in this module you will need access to a computer that is linked to the Internet. You will also be required to communicate with your group and tutor via e-mail.

You will also require Web access in the latter part of this module and you should make allowances for the cost of online time at that stage.

Assessment

In this module your assessment will be weighted as follows:

  • Group collaboration as shown in your collaboration log = 10%
  • Personal reflection as presented in your e-diary = 10%
  • Assignment 1 = 20%
  • Assignment 2 = 20%
  • Assignment 3 = 40%

Assignment 1: Evaluating the influences of current or past assessment practice

This assignment is to be completed once you have completed Activity 1.

What to do:

Use the self-assessment survey and the learner survey to evaluate your assessment practice and the learners' perceptions of your assessment practice.

In a document of no less than 600 words provide a summary of the survey results and reasons for the assessment methods and tools that you use.

  • Analyse and give reasons for the difference/similarity in your own and your learners' view of your assessment practice.
  • Review this in the light of the principles of the curriculum and outline the changes in assessment practice that you think are most important to implement.
  • Alternatively, justify why you think that your assessment practice is completely appropriate.

What to submit:

Save your survey analysis document as <your_student_number>-Core2B-survey-analysis . e.g. 205654321-Core2B-survey-analysis

Send this document as and attachment in e-mail to your tutor (using the subject heading "Core2B Assignment1").


Assessment criteria for Assignment 1

You have described and explained the reasons for your current assessment practice

You have described and charted your and your learners' comparative responses, and discussed reasons for discrepancies

You have outlined principles of the curriculum as described in the readings

You have evaluated your assessment practice in the light of curriculum principles

You have provided a plan of action for changes in your assessment practice or a justification for your current practice to remain unchanged

Assignment 2: Evaluating the use of assessment tools for ICT integration

This assignment is to be completed once you have completed Activity 5.

What to do:

In this assignment you will focus on fine-tuning assessment tools that you can use in the classes where you integrate ICT. You will be required to create and submit 5 assessment tools.

1. Look for 5 assessment tools that you or your colleagues have used before, or use the Internet to find assessment tools that other teachers have used.

2. Use each tool to assess an aspect of your lessons in which you integrate ICT. Beneath each tool make reflective comments on the effectiveness of its use in your class.

3. Edit the assessment until it perfectly suits your needs.

What to submit:

Save each assessment tool in a Word, Excel or HTML format.

Compress the 5 assessment tools into one ZIP file. Give the Zip file the name <your_student_number>-Core2B-assessment-tools .
e.g. 205654321-Core2B-assessment-tools

Send the zip file as an attachment in e-mail to your tutor (using the subject heading "Core2B Assignment2").

 


Assessment criteria for Assignment 2

You have selected or created 5 assessment tools

Each tool reflects some aspect of ICT integration, amongst other criteria

You have made reflective comments evaluating the tools effectiveness in your class

Your assessment tools fulfill the basic requirements of assessment tools.

Assignment 3: Implementing an assessment strategy  

This assignment is to be completed once you have completed Activity 8. You will benefit if you have completed all the activities in this module before attempting this assignment.

What to do:

In this assignment you will develop a full unit of work that includes the integration of ICT. The portfolio of work that you will submit for the assignment should include:

  • Unit plan outline that includes an indication of how ICT has been integrated (See the CD to access the unit plan template)
  • A complete assessment strategy for the unit as a whole. The assessment plan is Section D of the unit plan template
  • One sample of a learner's work during this unit
  • Sample completed assessment tools for the learner sample work. All assessment tools must include reference to some aspects of ICT integration.
  • A reflection, written at the end of the unit plan, of the success of the assessment strategy and what changes you will make next time.

What to submit:

Your portfolio should consist of:

  • a unit plan
  • one learner sample
  • at least three assessment tools related to this sample

When creating this portfolio ensure that images that are included are files which have a small file size. No single portfolio document should be more than 250kb in size. Compress this portfolio into a ZIP file.

Save your e-diary as <your_student_number>-Core2B-ediary .
