Final conclusions: 1 hr

Can ICT enhance research-based learning experiences?

We trust that you have been able to learn from this experience of planning a research-based unit of work. It should have given you a good idea of how ICT can best be used by both you and the learners during the planning and implementation of such a unit.

Early on in this module we identified the critical success factors for research-based learning. You will have used many of these in your planned unit. During the activity you also learnt about many tools and techniques that you could use to enhance learning through research -based work. Successful use of these tools and techniques that enhance thinking and learning creates the best circumstances for the effective integration of ICT during learning.

Activity
  1. Draw on your experiences during this module and evaluate the integration of ICT with learning during research / project-based activities. Use your e-diary to come to some initial conclusions.

  2. Participate in an online group discussion (using the subject heading "Can ICT enhance the learning experience?").
    1. List the factors that make ICT a valuable tool in research and project-based learning.
    2. List the concerns that you have about the use of ICT as a tool during research and project-based learning.
    3. What is your final conclusion?

  3. Continue this discussion as you prepare your final assignment.

ASSIGNMENT 2

This assignment should be attempted while you are doing all the activities of the module. You should complete the assignment once you have completed all the activities in the module.

What to do:

Identify a unit of work for which you would like to implement a research-based approach to learning within the next few months.

Using any of the template models suggested in this module, design the unit.

Use the template provided to draw up an implementation plan. Explain how you will integrate ICT and why you think the use of ICT is appropriate.

Use ICT resources to develop at least 6 learner support documents that should include examples from each of Dodge's scaffold types viz. reception, transformation and production scaffolds

What to submit:

If your designed project consists of several files, compress

  • these project files AND
  • the 6 learner support documents

into a Zip file.

Save this Zip file as <your_student_number>-Elective10-project
e.g. 205654321-Elective10-project

Save your e-diary as <your_student_number>-Elective10-ediary
e.g. 205654321-Elective10-ediary

Save your collaboration log as <your_student_number>-Elective10-collaboration
e.g. 205654321-Elective10-collaboration

Send these saved documents as file attachments in e-mail to your tutor (using the subject heading "Working with Information - Assignment 2 ").
