Serrurias are named after Professor J Serrurier who was professor of Botany at the University of the South Western Cape.
The peak time of bloom is between late autumn and winter (June and September)and they take about 15 months to flower from seed. They need fire to propogate. The plants are evergreen and grow to a height of between 1 and 1.5 metres.
