Welcome to our web page.  We have put together some interesting facts about  breeding.

Females usually lay 2 eggs at a time.  The second chick is the stronger one, the first chick will quite often die. The Rock hopper chicks have a black, grey and white stomach.  The Emperor chicks have distinctive black and grey feathers.
The males can lose more than half their body weight by incubating the eggs.

The greatest amount of penguins breeding  together are found in rookeries.  They gather together in a big colony to lay their eggs.

Guarding chicks

Penguins will choose their mate when they are approximately four years of age.
They will stay with the same mate all their lives.  The females will not get of their eggs to defend their eggs.

When the female penguins feed their chicks  they regurgitate their food.  They put their heads on their sides and their chicks eat from their mouths.
