Earth Day
Facts Mr. Buckman's Second Grade Class |
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Earth Day (Saturday, April 22) the students at Trombly decorated paper shopping bags. The bags will be used on Earth Day to package groceries bought at a local Farmer Jack store. I our classroom, the students decorated their bags with Earth facts that were gathered from information books, classroom newspapers and information found on the Internet. Their bags turned out wonderfully. But more importantly, their have played a part in communicating to others the need for a clean and healthy environment. The picture below are the finished Earth Day bags ready for use. The writing below are some of the facts and suggestions that the students found to help our planet Earth. Thank you, Mrs. Navetta, for coordinating the Earth Day bag project at Trombly. |

You should put new trees in. If you don't
there would be no paper. Kara You should not throw trash in water. If you do the
fish will die and the bears will die. Do not throw trash in the water because you can kill
the fish. Do not smoke because you pollute the air. In the united states we use approximately25 trillion
gallons of fresh water each year. We are using our fresh water faster then we are
recharging our groundwater. Fourteen billion pounds of trash is dumped into the
ocean every year. Each person in the united states throws out about
four pounds every day. Every ton of paper recycled saves 17 trees. 65 billion aluminum soda cans are used up every
year. The Earth’s fresh water supply is limited and
threatened by pollution. In the United States, we use approximately 25
Trillion gallons of fresh water each year. Don’t throw trash away a lot because it will
pollute the Earth. Don’t throw away trash in the water because it
will pollute the it. Pick up litter you see as you walk. Take a shower not a bath and make it short. Each person in the United States throws out about
four pounds of garbage every day. Being your own home recycling center. A bath uses twice as much as a shower. I recycle old newspapers. Try to stop buying styrofoam. Pick up trash around your town. |
Each hour, people in the USA use two and
a half million plastic bottles. D. P. In one day, Americans get rid of 20,000 cars and
4,000 trucks and buses. It takes 90% less energy to recycle an aluminum can
than to make a new one. New York City alone throws out enough trash to fill
the Empire State Building. Cars produce carbon monoxide which cause air
pollution problems. when you turn on the hose you use about three to
five gallons of water a minute. Don't use styrofoam because it will hurt the Earth
if you throw it out, you can't recycle, and if you burn it it will spread
a poisonous gas. If there is a leak in your gasoline tank you should
fix it right away because an animal might drink it it was thirsty. People could recycle things rather then away
something. People could not pollute air by making loud noises so they
should not make loud noises Earths fresh water supply is limited and threatened
by pollution. Don't use styrofoam a lot because it is not
recyclable and pollutes the air. Earth's fresh water supply is limited and threatened
by pollution. In the United states we use approximate 25 trillion
gallons of fresh water each year. Americans use 2.5 million plastic bottles every
hour. A washing machine uses over 5,000 gallons of water a
year. Don't leave the sink on for 2 days because the
lake's or ocean's water will be taken. Do not throw away things that can be recycled
because you will still have a lot of stuff. |
