Mr. Buckman's Second Grade made an inquiry into the services provided to our neighborhood.  The service the class chose to research was the police department.  The following are the information paragraphs that the children created.

People have to do hard work to be come a police officers. He had to have a degree from college. He had to take a hard test. They had to ask him how to become a police officer. The police chief has to ask him if he got good grades and the chief has to go in his future. They have to give you shots. He had to go to two doctors. They have to ask him if he is lying or not. He had to go to Police Academy for 16 weeks. He had to be 21 years old.

Some police officers are assigned to cross children at busy streets. They do this job so kids do not get hurt. When the police do the job of crossing kids they stand on the side walk and wait for kids. Some kids walk from school and if police were not there they might get in an accident.

Some police officers collect clues. They may put baby powder on stuff so they can see fingerprints on stuff. Some police offices are Detectives. Their job is to find out clues. They find all the clues that they can find and put them together. They find clues at houses too, not just at stores. They use the clues and find out who the person is and then put them in jail.

Police Officers communicate in many different ways. Many Police Officers call communicating tools different names. Police Officers communicate so they know if there is burglar doing something bad. Police Officers use things called Preps, telephone, and computers. A prep is a kind of walkie-talkie. Police Officers tell people at the Police station that they fond a person breaking the law.

Police officers wear uniforms at work. The police wear badges on there shirts. The police are easily recognized in uniforms. They wear a belt their waist to carry their tolls. The police wear a hat. The police also carry a notebook for giving tickets.

Some police officers have a special job. Police officers cross kids at the corner when they are going to school and cross older people too. Sometimes police officers make cars stop so the kids can go across the street. Police officers are community helpers.

They help kids cross the street when they go to school. They help us find misplaced, stolen and taken things. They keep us safe by calling the doctors when we are hurt. Police help kids who are lost find there mom and dad. Police arrest people when they brake the law. Police are good people in our community because they keep us safe.

Some Police Stations have Enhanced 911. Enhanced 911 is where somebody's phone number and address pops up on a computer somewhere in the police station (somebody has to call the police station before that happens). If someone ever made a prank phone call the police would go to the house where the prank was made and the police would ask, "So where is it?" The other person would say, "Oh, I thought I saw something." For instance if someone called and didn't know their phone number, the police could still help because they would see the person's phone number on the equipment. Enhanced 911 is important to have.

Some police officer use motorcycles. Police have motorcycles to catch up to people that are speeding. Police need to catch up to drivers that are going to fast. Police motorcycles can even hurt a police office because they can fall off. They can get in to smaller places than car. They can park very easily even on the sidewalk.

Police Officer patrol the 24 hours a day. They have a hard job because they have to know if someone is speeding or to give someone a ticket out. They make sure that everybody stops at a stop sign or a red light. If someone is not obeying the law they have to give them a ticket. They help some schools because they make sure that you don't get hit by a car or truck. they just make sure that it is safe for you they don't want to see you get hit by a car or truck.

Police officer's jobs can be very hard. They make sure people obey the law. Police officers patrol the streets. Police officers can be very helpful by crossing us to school. Police officers help people. Police officers help our city and our state. When someone breaks the law police officers investigate. Police officers help everyone in a community.

Police officers carry lots of equipment. Police officers always carry a gun for safety. In every bullet holder there are15 bullets and if they didnt have bullet holders the bullets would fall out. Also they always carry a spray that is really, really strong called pepper spray. Police officers use boats, cars, and motorcycles. police officers have something called hand cuffs and they cuff the crimnals. To handcuff someone means to lock people's hands together.

There different kinds of police officers There are some police who use computers. Some police officers help children get to school by watching them cross busy streets. Detective police officers find clues if a bad person has broken into a house, store, building. Scout police make sure a neighborhood is ok at night morning and afternoon. There's not enough police to keep us safe.

Police officers use cool equipment to communicate. Police use two-way radios to communicate. Preps are walkie talkies. Police officers can talk to each other in person. Police officers need to communicate because someboady might be hurt very bad. Police officers need to communicate because something dangerous in the area might be happening. Police officers need to communicate because they can't always do things by themself they need help.

One job that police officers have is to find criminals. .If someone break the law police officers investigate. If someone has breaking the law and the police have not find they try and got all the info they can.If plice have find the criminal they arrest him or her. If a criminal is on foot police run after him or her. If a criminals are in a car the police chase him or her. When some one is arrest they are put in jail.

Some police officers ride on their horses. Police officers drive on motorcycles, too. They use cars to catch criminals so fast. Police officers use computers to find clues. When they work the police officers help them find clues.

Police use their cars to catch bad people that try to get away in cars. Police use their cars incldeing their sirens to get to places faster. Police put special things like radios in their cars and a lap top to in their cars. If you go to fast on the road the police will arrest you. Some police patrol the highways, too.

There is a lot to do at a police station. There is a communications center. They use it to answer call so they can send a police officer to the places that they are needed. There are green and red lights the green stand that the police officer is not helping a person . The red means thay are working . There are jall cells at the police station.When they don't use cars, they put them in a garage.

Some police officers have jobs collecting clues. Some police officers have jobs collecting clues. They need to find clues. To find that did the crime about the subjects, police use science. Soon they finish and the police know who it is that did the crime. The clues are hard to find.

Police wear a prep so if they have to talk to some one at the station a prep is like a walkie talkie. They use their guns to protect themselves and other people in danger. Their rubber gloves helps them so if some one is bleeding they won't get ther germs. They carry handcuffs they use their hndecuffs to arrest peopl. They carry extra rounds so if they runout of them they can get more. Police use pepper spray so if the robber tries to get away the police spray pepper spray in the robbers eyes. They use ther pen to write with every day. They use their keys to lock and unlock the handcuffs.

Police officers take care of lost kids and people to and dogs and have many police officers have important jobs.Police officers have cars and bikes and horses to and motorcycles to hel them get to people faster. Police officers have dogs that find drugs from the cars. Police officers help protect communities and the property of people home. .
