You ask: So what does he eat? Did he eat anything unusual at the farm?

Family: My boy eats...the regular stuff. Chicken, turkey...
Hum... You know our vacation to his grandma's house? Well... I do recall that he does go coon hunting with the farm dogs our uncle has. But the uncle's dogs has been perfectly healthy since our visit. I really don't want to get him in trouble… but maybe he ate some raccoon meat from the kill. I recall him mentioning a raccoon who wasn't afraid of them at all… usually raccoons don't get near humans. He said it was an easy kill.

Dr. Begely: That's preposterous! Getting rabies from eating meat? I think it was from the raccoon biting him at the farm instead of the backyard. Rabid animals show changes in their behavior and raccoons are generally night animals. I think the raccoon bit him.

Dr. Shelly: You can get rabies from eating meat. We didn't find any bite marks. Plus the boy said it was an easy kill. It's very unlikely that the raccoon could have bitten him.

Now it's time to make the final diagnosis and hypothesis. What do you think Doctor?

He got rabies from being bitten by a raccoon.

He got rabies from eating raccoon meat.

He got rabies from the uncle's dogs.
