4% solution of sodium tetraborate decahydrate
polyvinyl alcohol
ziploc bags
10 ml graduated cylinder or pipets
Procedure:
Place 3 ml of sodium tetraborate decahydrate in one corner of a ziploc bag. Add 9 ml of polyvinyl alcohol to the sodium tetraborate. Close the ziploc bag and mix the two solutions by kneading outside the bag. When the mixture reaches the right consistency (becomes slime) the students may take the slime out of the bag and play with it. Wash after handling, and caution your students not to ingest the slime and not to leave the slime where a younger child might ingest it. Store the slime in the ziploc bag. When it becomes too watery, it should be discarded.
