It is not helpful
for you to learn the whole range of computer skills "just
in case" you might one day want to use them. These
modules have tried rather to use a "just-in-time"
approach to learning. This means that we introduce you to tools
and skills as and when you need them (just-in-time). It could mean
that there are some computer skills that you will not learn as they
are not relevant to your needs.
This is exactly the same
as driving a car. There are things about a car, especially the engine,
that you do not need to know in order to be able to drive a car.
If you learn something on a course "just-in-case" you
need to know it one day, you are likely to forget it quite soon,
since you do not have the opportunity to practise it. Perhaps you
can think of an occasion when this has happened to you?
These modules will encourage you to find the contexts
and situations in which you will need to work with computers as
a tool. As an educator, these roles will typically be as an
administrator for your classes and learners, a manager
of certain events and, most importantly, as an educator in
the classroom who prepares lessons and activities for the learners.
As you define these roles for yourself, your tutor will suggest
specific skills and tools that will assist you in those tasks. You
will learn the necessary computer skills "just-in-time".
As a result, you will understand the purpose of their use and you
will learn the skills more effectively. |
