Microsoft Word 2007 - Office Menu

 

When you start MS Word you are faced with a blank screen with a number of icons visible on the menu. This menu is also known as the Office Ribbon

The Office Button:

when you click the Office button, several tools that are not available on the menu appear.

 

Tabs on the Menu /Ribbon

The are several tabs available on the menu. Each tab has its own related icons.

Home tab:

Contains the following groups of icons: Clipboard, Font, Paragraph, Styles and Editing

 

Insert tab:

Contains the following sets of icons: Pages, Tables, Illustrations, Links, Header & Footer, Text and Symbols

Page Layout tab:

Contains the following sets of icons: Themes, Page Setup, Page Background, Paragraph and Arrange

 

References tab:

Contains the following sets of icons: Table of Contents, Footnotes, Citations and Bibliography, Captions, Index and Table of Authorities

Mailings tab:

Contains the following sets of icons: Create, Start Mail Merge, Write & Insert Fields, Preview Results and Finish

Review tab:

Contains the following sets of icons: Proofing, Comments, Tracking, Changes, Compare and Protect

View tab:

Contains the following sets of icons: Document views, Show/Hide, Zoom, Window and Macros

Developer tab:

Often the developer tab is not automatically availble on the menu. To insert it as part of the menu, click the Office Button.

Click Word options at the bottom of the screen.

Then check the box that says Display

The Developer tab contains the following sets of icons: Code, Controls, XML, Protect and Templates

 

The quick access toolbar contains icons that you can set for quick use. You can customise the toolbar by selecting the drop down arrow and selecting icons that you want to quickly access.
