Why is planning so important?

If you don't not know where you are going, it is very difficult to get there.It is this simple statement which explains why planning is so important when working in an organisation. More and more, people working in organisations are being called upon to prepare plans that show what they are trying to achieve and how they intend achieving it. Planning is an integral component of effective management and leadership in organisations.

You plan at your school to do the following activities:

  • Create timetables;
  • Organise fundraising events;
  • Implement work schedules,
  • Action organisational improvements;
  • Conduct staff meetings;
  • Target time and the necessary resources to develop Staff, etc.

When it comes to introducing ICTs in your school, or taking an existing process forward, planning is very important. Why is this so? If there is no integrated plan, properly agreed upon by interested stakeholders, then there is likely to be disagreement, dissension, and even disintegration, as various groups implement different plans, or do what they please, without any over-arching co-ordination or alignment to a broader vision.
