Imagine that it’s the first day of the new school
year. Picture the staff and learners as they approach the school
that morning. Focus on them as they approach the staff room where
10 computers have just been installed. Imagine what they are thinking.
Are they thinking:
“I can’t wait to start using the computers.” Or,
“Now that the computers are here, there will be more
work for me.” Or,
‘Why now, why not last year?”
Perhaps the management and administrative staff are
thinking about how they can use this new asset to keep track of what
is going on in the school. “Will we be able to keep a computerized data
base?” they ask themselves.
Sadly, some might be thinking:
“Will these computers be safe in our school?
Are they going to last a year?
Is this environment suitable for computers?”
And, “How safe will my documents be?”
The questions that people at the school are asking
themselves about security reflect the need for a more comprehensive
physical, security system at the school. There are compelling reasons
for keeping our schools safe and putting in place the appropriate support
for effective ICT implementation.
