Two years
ago, Nelson Mandela High School invested in 45 computers for
the school. In these first two years, parents were asked to indicate whether
they wanted their children to access and learn how to use the computers
at the school. Those parents that wanted this access for their children
paid an additional $30 in school fees, each year. The result was that
50% of parents went for this option over the two-year period.
Now, at the end of the two-year period, the school
wants to invest in additional computers for the school. Recurring
costs for existing computers at the school have increased over the
last two years, as well. The cost implications in covering recurring
costs and implementing ICT-related plans point to the likelihood
that all parents will be required to contribute an additional $30
per learner/per year. The benefit would, of course, be that every
learner at the school would access and learn how to use the computers
at the school, but this outcome would not be possible without additional
school funds.
To make matters more difficult, a number of
parents are unsure about the proposed rise in fees and the benefit
of using ICTs. How would you motivate for the proposed rise in fees?
Explain.
