Example questions for the developmental (entry) stage

The questions can be answered in relation to whichever stage or stage(s)
you find your educators 'at' with regard to ICT use. Write any other considerations
that you feel will be important when supporting educators at your school with their
ICT-use and ICT-learning in your e-diary.

When thinking of the developmental (entry) stage, ask yourself the following questions:

Overcoming Obstacles/Resistances

What obstacles will need to be overcome? Are educator attitudes, for example, a barrier to effective ICT integration at the school?
What strategies will you rely on to overcome obstacles?

Training Support

What kind of training would provide educators with the skills appropriate to this stage?
What would you expect educators to do with this training at this level? In class? For admin? How will this training be done?
Will educators, for example, receive a personal copy of the Educators' Network CD to work with? Will computers be dedicated for staff use?
What will you do at the school to ensure that training takes place? Will you block time for educators to be able to work with the CD modules, for e.g.? Will there be a timetable? What will the frequency of training be?
Will it be continuous? Once weekly? etc.
How much of the staff development budget will be allocated towards ICT-related training?
What support materials will be needed for this?

Opportunities for Collaboration, Discussion and Progression

How will you ensure that educators have sufficient time to problem-solve and discuss the ways in which they are integrating ICT use in the classroom? Will time be blocked off for this?
What kind of teams will you promote at the school to ensure that ICT use is relevant for each learning area at the school?
How as a leader will you model and support these processes? What kinds of things will you do to ensure that development is sustained?
What kinds of incentives will there be for educators to develop to the next stage of ICT use?
By when do you plan that these processes will be taking place at the school?
What other things will you do at the school to encourage continuous developmental progression?

Ensuring that expertise in each learning area is created to benefit
both learner and educator

Will certain educators be given priority training?
This question should be answered in relation to the unique position of your own school. For example, if literacy and/or maths and science results are down, these learning areas may be good starting points for focused training.
How will you ensure that digital content that has been used in lessons will not be lost?In other words, how will concrete examples of useful lessons constructed and/or used by educators at your school not be lost, but made accessible to other educators?
Will you create expertise only in your school or will you encourage educators to collaborate with others outside of the school? If so, what mechanisms and/or support will you put in place to ensure that this is possible?
