When integrating ICTs at a school, planning for Learner
Achievement and Progress is still central. Without this at the core
of the school Vision, plans for change will not be meaningful.
Peter F. Drucker, in his article The
Discipline of Innovation, says that when one introduces an innovation,
like ICT integration at a school, for example: "One should have
a clear mission, be results-oriented, be willing to abandon what does
not work and focus on both needs and opportunity".
Senge, in his article The
Practice of Innovation, extends on thoughts of Drucker and makes
a distinction between Vision and Mission. Read this article, and answer
the following questions in your portfolio:
- What is the difference between the concepts of
vision and mission?
- What does it mean to be mission-based and why is
mission alone not enough?
- What sorts of understandings do leaders need to
developcultivate for in the school or work environment when it comes
to communication?
- What does Senge say the attitude to failure should
be? Why is assessment and collaboration important?
- Which of these underlying principles do you feel
will be particularly important for the school when integrating ICTs?
