THIRD GRADE RESEARCH MODULE
Module One:  Questioning and Planning


  • Day 1:  Introducing the Essential Question, Choice, or Problem


    Penguin Alert!  There are many threats to the survival of penguins as we know them today.  Among these are environmental issues, natural predators, and man.  You are a member of a research team that has been assigned the task of researching these threats to penguins.  To complete your job, you must research each problem area.  Find at least two ways each problem affects penguins.  Rank them in  1-2-3- order, with #1 being the greatest threat to penguins.

    For  the issue you choose as the #1 threat, look through some articles to find out what has already been done to help solve this problem.  Then work with your team to come up with some new ways to help solve this problem that is threatening the survival of penguins.


    At the end of your research you will give a presentation in a slide show.  In the presentation  your team will explain why you ranked the threats as you did.  You will also share your new and better solution to the #1 problem.

    Your grade will be based on daily participation, teamwork, and your final slide presentation.
