Presenting Your Decision
Centerville City Schools

You know a lot about each route.
You will now make your decision.
Follow these steps to explain your choice.

Prewriting:

Step 1 Write a topic sentence you believe in.

Example

The western route is better than the Ohio route or the eastern route.

Step 2 Look at your table of the four (or more) reasons why your route is the best for your family.

Step 3 Find two to three details that prove that your route is the best.

Writing:
Paragraph #1                           Beginning

Step 4 Write your first paragraph.
a. Start with a general sentence about slavery and the Underground Railroad movement.
b. Write an introductory sentence about each route.

Step 5 Add a transitional sentence. It will link your sentences about each route to your topic statement.

Paragraphs #2,3,4,5                  Middle

Step 6 Write a paragraph for each of your four reasons. Include the details that will prove each reason. (If you had more than four reasons you may want to use only the four strongest reasons.)

Paragraph #6                           End

Step 7 Write a conclusion.
A conclusion reminds the reader of your most important ideas and clearly states which route your family will take.

Before you turn it in, check your work. These are the
criteria you decided were important:
